Gravy on French Fries?!

I’m sticking with another blog that’s over the border, north of the US.

Montréal, Quebec, Canada is a great city to visit. It has a variety of great cuisine. In a city of approximately 2 million people, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Have you ever tried French fries with ketchup? …with mayonnaise? How about having French fries with gravy? Yup, gravy!

In Quebec, there is a very popular dish with the locals. The French-Canadians call it ‘Poutine’. It is basically French fries served with brown gravy (and as an option, with added cheese curd).

Apparently the Montréalais really love their French fries smothered with gravy. Even the big fast-food hamburger chains, like McDonald’s, serve their famous French fries with gravy. Imagine ordering McDonald’s famous French fries anywhere in the city of Montréal, and then getting your order of fries smothered in brown sauce. I haven’t tried it yet. It just looks too messy for me to get an order at McDonald’s to give it a try.

It’s so popular that the French fries with gravy (called ‘Poutine’ by the locals), is served all over Canada. Some of the finer dining establishments serve the French fries topped with cheese curds (not melted) and then smothered over with gravy.
