Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk! Jerome Horwitz!

‘Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk!’ and a ’woo-woo-woo!’ to you.

Today is Jerome Lester "Jerry" Horwitz (October 22, 1903 – January 18, 1952) birthday. He was a comic vaudevillian. He was also part of a very popular American trio comedy team act back in the mid-1925 through 1946. You probably know them as ‘The Three Stooges’. Jerome Horwitz aka by his stage name, Curly Howard. Their signature slapstick comedy was physical and at times, extreme, not typical for that time period. The Three Stooges were paid in ‘peanuts’ by the production company.

Out of all the other third ‘heals', Shemp Howard, Joe Besser, Joe DeRita, Curly was the best. Curly joined the Three Stooges in 1934 after his older brother, Shemp Howard, left the group to try his luck as a solo actor. Curly became the 3rd heal in 1934 and was part of the trio until his stroke in 1946. Curly, hands down, was the most popular member of The Three Stooges. Moe Howard and Shemp Howard were his real brothers.

The Three Stooges can be seen on re-runs.
