Vroooom, Vroooom! Ferrari World is set to open

Wow, I’ve just added a new destination onto my ‘If-I-Have-Unlimited-Resources-I-Would-Go-To!’ list.

Buckle up everyone! And get ready for some hair-raisin’, wild rides! If you love fast cars, if speed is your thing and if you have lots of money (lol), then you too will want to put this theme park on your ‘want-to-visit’ list.

The 1st Ferrari theme amusement park is due to open this week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). It seems those wacky UAE Arabs will just go about constructing any cool-looking and ambitious structures that they want to. (See my early blog, back on September 25th, about another potential UAE project).

Ferrari World is a combination outdoor/indoor racecar theme park. The red ‘amoeba-like-shaped’ building is called ‘the world’s largest indoor amusement park in the world’. There is over 900,000 square feet of space under the red roof.

There will be roughly (20) rides that includes (2) metal-framed roller coasters. Both roller coaster thrill rides will have outdoor courses although the loading/unloading areas will be indoors under the red roof.

One roller coaster ride is called the ‘Fiorano GT Challenge’. It’s a dual track ride. The coaster cars are designed to look like the Ferrari F430 Spiders. Riders will be racing each other side-by-side for the length of ride. Cool-looking coaster cars!
The other coaster ride is called the ‘Formula Rossa’. Their coaster cars mimic Ferrari F1 racecars. When the ride is in full operation, it is expected to be the fastest roller coaster in the world, with speeds topping at 150 mph!
There are (2) scheduled opening dates this week. The first one, scheduled for this Wednesday, October 27th, 2010, will be the *soft-opening day. Then if all goes well for the park officials, with no major snafu, the official scheduled grand opening ceremony will be held on the next day, October 28th, 2010.

[*Note:  A ‘soft-opening’ is when the amusement park opens its doors without any fanfare or public announcement. This will give the park developers a good sense of how their theme park spaces work or don’t work, if any problems pop up. This feedback will allow the officials some time to make the necessary adjustments to the theme park before the official grand opening.].
